1 cup Applesauce
(Up to) 2 cups Ground Cinnamon
Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
Start by combining the applesauce and cinnamon in a large bowl.
While mixing, the cinnamon can spray out in a cloud of dust before it’s incorporated, so using a large bowl helps to minimize this.
With an electric mixer, blend the two ingredients until a dough consistency is formed. You don’t want the mixture to be too sticky, so keep adding cinnamon until you have cookie batter-like dough.
You can refrigerate the dough prior to rolling if you’d like. This can make it a little easier to handle.
Place the dough on a flat surface to roll out. You can either dust the surface with additional cinnamon (just as you would flour when making sugar cookies) or you can roll it out in between two pieces of plastic wrap.
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out. You want the thickness to be no more than ¼ inch.
Using cookie cutters, cut out various shapes and sizes of ornaments.
Place the ornaments of a parchment lined baking sheet. Using a straw, make a hole in each ornament where the ribbon will go.
Place the cinnamon ornaments in a 200 degree oven and bake for 2 ½ hours.
Once cool, use a dropper to place several drops of cinnamon oil to each ornament. This step can also be repeated each year to bring the ornaments back to life after being in storage!
Thread a ribbon through each ornament and hang on your tree! That’s it!
